Full-time Loss Control -- Property & Casualty Risk Engineer

Job Requirements:

The candidate will provide risk improvement consultation to commercial customers to positively impact the customer''s loss ratio and deliver value that influences the insurance buying decision. The primary focus of this position will be the successful execution of consultative based servicing and risk engineering services to clients. In addition, on-site visits of existing and prospective customers will be conducted and comprehensive reports will be completed that evaluate hazards and controls for adequate risk selection, pricing, and application of underwriting techniques leading to profitable growth. The territory consists mostly of Northern Ohio, Northwestern Pennsylvania, Northeastern Indiana, and Southern Michigan. Position may require overnight travel, less than 3%.

Activities include scheduling visitation, processing of client correspondence and inquiries, report completion and recommendation follow-up as necessary, coordination with claims and underwriting partners to insure consistent risk selection, high retention and the exceeding of service expectations. This position reports to the Area Loss Control Manager.

Technical Skills:

Qualified candidate will have a minimum of 5-7 years progressive experience in employer's liability, casualty and property insurance risk control and loss prevention functions, primarily focused on evaluating hazards and controls. This position is responsible for counseling existing commercial insurance customers in risk improvement. Candidate must have a sound proficiency in property and casualty loss control skills, with an emphasis on products liability.


Candidate should possess a comprehensive understanding of property construction, occupancy, protection, and exposures, business interruption exposures and controls, product liability exposures and controls, employer's liability (Stop gap) exposures and controls, commercial vehicle exposures and controls, interviewing techniques and technical report writing.

Candidate needs to have excellent written and oral communication skills. Be initiative, an effective time manager, and ability to function both independently and as an integral member of a client service team are essential core competencies. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat required. A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint preferred.


Four-year college degree with major in sciences or engineering preferred. Possessing relevant professional designations or certifications such as CSP or ARM is highly desirable.
