Full-time Commercial Underwriter for Energy Resource Unit

The Chubb Group of Insurance Companies is currently seeking a Commercial Insurance Underwriter to join the Energy Resource Specialty Unit of its New York Branch.

As an Energy Underwriter, you are accountable for:
• Financial performance of a book of commercial business.
• Achieving profitable growth for the Eastern Territory.
• Successful market penetration and agency management including: 1) Identifying opportunities for growth within new and existing production sources, 2) Performing front door management to filter new business and reinforce appetite and, 3) Conduct agency planning and goal setting including continual monitoring of progress. 4) Acting as a key contact to build, maintain and manage customer/broker relationships (including regular broker & Insured visits based on business need); may require overnight travel.
• Representing one face to the customer for all Energy products and services, including identifying cross sell opportunities.
• Predominately responsible for soliciting, risk selection and analysis (including documentation), pricing and sales of Energy products and services for new business.
• Meeting with new and renewal customers to make sales presentations and negotiate coverage’s, price, financial terms and service delivery, as necessary.
• Working in a team environment with Underwriters, Loss Control, Claims and Operations.
• Meeting service standards of a customer focused strategy.
• Collecting and sharing competitor data with team.


Knowledge, skills and abilities:
• Solid knowledge of commercial underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices
• Demonstrated technical expertise and product specific knowledge for Energy and related customers
• Proven, successful sales skills
• Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners.
• Experience developing marketing plans
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• Minimum three to five years of underwriting experience
